DEDON DALA Chair
DEDON DALA Outdoor Furniture • DALA DEDON Collection • DALA Chair
Stephen Burks, one of the most talented designers of a new generation of Americans, created the new DEDON DALA collection. The source of inspiration was the improvised seating typical of developing countries and their skilled craftsmen. DALA is probably the first collection of woven furniture that brings surface and structure into harmony. The artwork begins with the colorful frame of powder-coated aluminum mesh. The experienced master weavers then thread a novel eco-fiber through the geometric aluminum grid. The innovative idea for the fiber, which was developed over several years and is composed of recycled food packaging and recycled polyethylene, also came from DEDON. The DALA collection consists of a chair, a coffee table, and an ottoman. The latter can also be converted into a side table. A regular side table is also available.
The DALA pieces are portable and convey a sense of lightness and serenity. The comfortable seat cushions are made of Batyline fabric. The furniture family stands directly on the ground and can be moved effortlessly on the terrace or carried down the steps to the beach. Three cheerful colors are available: Stone, Fire, and Grass, each woven in a pattern of stripes of varying widths. The recycled food packaging gives the DALA fiber a characteristic shine and a rich, almost leather-like texture with a very pleasant feel. DALA, Burks explains, means "to make" in one of the dialects he encountered while working with craftsmen from around the world.
The groundbreaking, ecological DEDON fiber, which makes its debut with Stephen Burks' DALA collection, was developed over several years. It is composed of recycled food and beverage packaging and fully recyclable, high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The high-quality, paper-like structure of the fiber gives it a wonderful texture. The material is suitable for use indoors as well as outdoors. It has a high tensile strength of over 150 kg/cm² and is resistant to saltwater and temperatures from -26 to 60°C. Avoid contact with chlorinated water. Clean chlorine water splashes with tap water. Although the company's in-house QUV test showed high UV resistance, the color of the DEDON eco-fiber may fade slightly over the years.
The DEDON fiber is not only extremely weather-resistant and impervious to cold or heat, sun, rain, or snow, but it also exhibits extraordinary color and structural stability and is resistant to chlorine and saltwater.
